This is a mobile OS GUI shoehorned to desktop. I predict enterprise failure, which is the Microsoft base. The XP interface was fine. MS just needed to improve mobile OS, enterprise apps and cloud serivces. No way am I going to migrate to this sort of BS interface. Maybe I'd use Win8 if a 3rd party developer provided an alternate adult UI. If I were a corporate IT admin, no way would I "upgrade" to this. No one has the budget for employee training how to open Powerpoint or Word, when they work perfectly in XP or 7.

7 is basically perfect (as XP was for nearly a decade). They should have gone with an entirely different sku for this bullshit UI and kept 7, upgrade to 8. They seem obsessed with having everything be '8' heard a rumor that xbox3 is going to be xbox 8/loop/infinity. Phone failed this is going to fail, I'm not an xbox guy, but I'm sure they're working on a way of killing that.

The OS is called Windows and the default Windows 8 UI doesn't let you use more than 2 windows.
All 3 billion existing Windows users know that you launch apps using the Start menu. So for Windows 8, they delete the Start menu altogether.
Microsoft have their heads up their arses.

I'm a Mac user (my username is a clue). But I like to know what's going on in the Windows world. I've downloaded Virtualbox (free) and have downloaded the Windows 7 preview a few years ago and now a few of Windows 8 releases. Yikes. I think by mashing together a touch UI and mouse/keyboard UI, they've really screwed the pooch. Can you imagine trying to tell grandma, "Move the pointer to the lower left hand corner. Now when you see the little Start tile, click." WTF.
Plus I don't think corporations are going to go for that either. I will be interesting how this shakes out. Of course once W8 goes to manufacturing, Microsoft will claim the record number of sales.

Corps and such will skip over 8, they will stick with 7 which is proven to be stable and easy enough. Because 7 is the new work standard MS is taking the opportunity to expand to touch/tablets.
It's not for everyone, most desktop user should stick with 7.The UI is built on html5 and css so it renders much faster. Boots have been timed at 8 seconds.
All the too cool for new school kids can stick with window 7 while they poopoo 8.
I think MS knows what they are doing. They saw what happened with Vista and how much they improved with 7.
