Bad day at the other message board..getting a "database error".
In regards to the show..not sure why..didn't love it, didn't hate it. Once again, it's their first day with audio equipment. Uneven levels (LOUD Alison, quiet Artie, badly connected cables. (the 1/8 inch to RCA or quarter inch adapter is a real struggle for some). Since I work with this stuff all the time I wanted to climb through my earbuds and fix it. There's even the occasional open mic picking up staffers talking.
It got me wondering whether or not they are multi tracking this stuff or just stereo mics. If they are multi tracking much of this stuff could be fixed in post. Certainly the levels could be tamed.

As it was a live show, I didn't even try listening without post-processing. I used xmplay with the Dynamic Auto-Amp turned on in the DSP and watched for a few mins as the levels were fixed in real-time. Why the ACE Geniuses don't do any post-processing ever is beyond me. Lazy gits.

Lazy gits. They've gotten better in the studio, but they REALLY seem to struggle with the live ones. The odd part is that they don't appear to edit anything. Even the stuff that could be cut to help them save face. I do get that maybe they are rushing to publish the stuff. Since most shows are recorded the night before. I was listening in my car..had it at a certain volume level because of Adam's tone mic level etc...then Alison spoke, and nearly crushed my skull. Not her fault at all. I'm thinking Dawson it's Dawson. But regardless, if it is multi-tracked, and even if it isn't there are ways to tame some of the levels.

Don't expect ACE to spend a second of effort once it's recorded to do anything.

Don't expect ACE to spend a second of effort once it's recorded to do anything. Did the other forum come back yet? I don't understand why that forum remains operating given it's track record. Just sayin. If I got timed out three times in one day, its time to shop the forum home around.

Don't worry about that Chuddyboy. My forumer extract only completed last night. though..keeping it real up in here, I completely respect the mods/operators at the other board. They kept the lights on, which I appreciate. Just an unfortunate choice of host. I want EVERYONE to migrate...like Canadian geese. Just knock that shit out. They should all be over here until a new home is found or this becomes that..(or I get tired of it's flaws)... The message board needs a Moses......

Show kind of underachieved a bit for me. I was expecting great things for Ace + Artie, but it never really hit a great level. News section for a taped show that was airing days later than normal felt widely unnecessary. It was like the audio equivalent of Sports Illustrated.

Eh, I was reminded why I didn't really care for Artie on Stern's show. I think he might be just a meat head.

so so show. live shows are just about alot of rambling on, and on hoping that something funny is said. Ace really has to get an act. Not only do we get to hear Ace repeat same material, this show we get to hear Artie do the same.
