Adam has become scary looking, and the kid with downs syndrome on left doesnt make Adam look any better (as it should do to the laws of relative attrActiveness)

I don't believe I am familiar with that game - is it a British phenomenon?

I don't believe I am familiar with that game - is it a British phenomenon? It is a very old game (1980) a coin-op written by Amstar who were based in....wait for it...Phoenix! ;D Apparently, it was the first game to have an "end of level big boss". It's pretty good. Play it with MAME.
